HEY, I'M CARLY!
My dog training journey started in 2013, when I fostered a young dog called Jack. In all honesty, he was a bit of wildling.
He'd clearly not had the benefit of good training whilst he was a puppy. Despite that, I fell in love with that wildling, and he is still on my sofa now, but it took years to reverse the damage that a lack of puppy training and socialisation had done. His behaviour meant we were his 7th home!
Years of teaching puppy class and fine-tuning my methods, I know what does and doesn't work, if you want to end up with a calm adult dog:
It isn't usually a group class. The real progress is always done at home.
Wasting time on 'party tricks' like high five. We have a critical brain development window in puppies.
At this age, (when our puppy's brain in still developing and pruning neural pathways) you want to be teaching important life skills, like recall and how to settle!
Tricks are fun, but what's the point in having an adult dog that can give a paw, if he won't come back at the park and you can't take anywhere because he can't settle?
My goal was always to create a course where puppy parents could train at their own pace and work specifically on those real life skills, so they grow up to be an awesome adult dog, who fits in perfectly with their family.
